Kanal ob Soči is a town in western Slovenia, near the bigger city of Nova Gorica. It’s name means “the channel next to Soča” – pretty straightforward! The town’s history dates back to the Roman ages, when the first bridge over Soča in the area was built, but Kanal was officially mentioned in records in the 13th century. The current bridge dates to the first world war, and its presence makes Kanal ob Soči an important crossing point over the river.
If you’re in the area today, you can enjoy the magically beautiful river Soča, a well-mantained camp site, and the excellent ice cream.
