Completely renovated in 2025–2026, this intimate and beautifully finished cottage offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Trenta Valley.

Tucked away at the end of a quiet forest road, the cottage feels wonderfully private and removed from the busier parts of the valley, while remaining just a few minutes from the Soča River, walking trails, restaurants and the village shop. From the cottage and garden, there are beautiful views across the valley towards the surrounding mountains.

Designed as a comfortable and romantic retreat for two, the cottage combines the warmth and character of a traditional mountain cabin with everything needed for a relaxing stay.

The wood-panelled living room is cosy and inviting, with a small wood-burning stove, a comfortable sofa, a large Smart TV and a Bose sound system. It is a lovely place to settle in after a day in the mountains, particularly with the fire lit on cooler evenings.

The compact kitchen is very well equipped, with an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, bean-to-cup coffee machine, toaster, kettle and under-counter refrigerator. Guests also have use of a second refrigerator in the utility room, together with a washer/dryer.

The bathroom is one of our favourite parts of the cottage, with a large walk-in shower and a freestanding slipper bath—perfect for a long soak after a day of hiking.

Upstairs, the bedroom occupies the entire top floor. It has a Queen size bed with a high-quality mattress and bedding, air conditioning, a ceiling fan and a second Bose sound system. Large balcony windows frame wonderful views of the mountains and valley, making the landscape  one of the first things you see each morning when you open the remote-controlled blinds.

The bedroom also has its own WC and washbasin. All windows are fitted with blackout blinds, and two have mosquito screens.

Outside:

There are several peaceful places around the cottage to sit and enjoy the views, whether over morning coffee, an afternoon book or a glass of wine as the sun disappears behind the mountains.

There is also a dedicated barbecue area with a Weber charcoal barbecue and a generous preparation surface. During the summer months, guests can also enjoy the outdoor shower.

Private parking is available for two cars.

Location and walking:

Although the cottage feels secluded, two local restaurants and the village shop are approximately a 12-minute walk away. Please bear in mind that some restaurants in the Trenta Valley operate seasonally.

There is excellent hiking directly from the cottage. The renowned Alpe-Adria Trail, which follows the beautiful Soča River through the valley, can be joined just down the hill, around five minutes away on foot.

You can leave the car at the cottage, walk down through the forest and be beside the Soča within minutes.

A few things to know:

The forest road: The final 500 metres or so, leading to the cottage are along a gravel forest road. Normal cars manage it without difficulty, but the surface is slightly uneven in places, so very low cars and sports cars may not be suitable.

The cottage is compact: This is deliberately a small and intimate retreat rather than a large holiday house. The bedroom has six drawers for folded clothes, with a separate wardrobe downstairs for hanging garments.

Privacy: The location is exceptionally quiet and private, and it is very unusual to see a car passing the cottage. You may occasionally see hikers walking by, as Trenta is one of Slovenia’s most popular hiking destinations.

Winter: From approximately the end of October to March the cottage is in the shade

For us, this combination is what makes the cottage so special: the feeling of being tucked away in the mountains, surrounded by forest and extraordinary scenery, while still having the Soča Valley and everything it offers just a few minutes away.

Further to the recent News we posted on “Ljubljana Sells Best” we wanted to provide more information on Ljubljana real estate. The sales are nearly always apartments and always in the centre of town. The demand from foreign buyers for houses in Ljubljana is low as they want to be located very centrally and this means apartments. Ljubljana villas in for example the Rozna Dolina area are also priced at a level that is too high for most Slovenia real estate investors.
