With the holidays behind us it often happens that January can be somewhat dull and monotonous, with not so many things going on…
Still we have managed to find a couple of events we would like to share with you.
FREE GUIDED TOUR OF RADOVLJICA OLD TOWN
Where: Linahrtov trg 9, Radovljica
When: Every Tuesday (13th, 20th and 27th of January), 10:00
Every Tuesday the Radovljica Tourist Information Center organizes a free guided tour through Radovljica’s medieval town.

The meeting point is at the Radovljica Tourist Information Center (Linahrtov trg 9) at 10:00 o’clock.
ICE RINK IN TRG REPUBLIKE
Where: Trg republike square, Ljubljana
When: December 14 2014 – January 31 2015, 08:30 – 22:00
The large ice rink that was set up and opened in Ljubljana’s central Trg republike square in December will be opened until the end of January this year. In addition to recreational skating sessions accompanied by a programme of entertainment, the ice rink also hosts hockey matches played by Ljubljana’s Premier League club HDD Telemach Olimpija.
The price for renting ice-skates is 3 euros and 2 hours (120 minutes) of ice-skating costs 5 euros.
THE CASTLES OF KING MATTHIAS (GRADOVI KRALJA MATJAŽA)
Where: Podpeca, Črna na Koroškem

The end of January brings an event organized annualy since 1993, in effort to keep the narrative tradition about King Matthias alive. Matthias was a legendary king in Slovenia and Hungary that reigned the Carinthia region in the second half of the 15th century in peace and prosperity. But then a horde of Turks swarmed in from the East and attacked the country. In an unequal fight, King Matthias and his army fought bravely until the king was only left with a handful of men. When he realized that the Turks were too strong, he and his surviving companions retreated when a cliff opened up to hide them from the enemies. The legend tells that the King now sleeps at a table with his soldiers around him, and once his beard grows long enough to wrap nine times around the table he will wake up and reign the country in peace and prosperity again.
The main activity during the event is building snow castles and sculptures while people are also competing for the title of King Matthias and his wife Lenčica, but there are other activities as well – like workshops for children, preparation of some local dishes etc.
